Welder (6GR )

Department: Fabrication / Construction

Reports To: Welding Supervisor / Fabrication Foreman

Job Purpose

The Welder (6GR) is responsible for performing precision welding and fabrication activities on pipelines, structural steel assemblies, and process equipment within an EPC project environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Welding & Fabrication

  • Execute welding operations using industry-standard processes including SMAW, GTAW (TIG), FCAW,

  • Perform 6G pipe welding on critical pipeline systems, high-pressure lines, and structural assemblies.

  • Carry out tack welding, joint preparation, alignment, and dimensional checks prior to final welding.

  • Perform cutting, grinding, and surface preparation of materials before welding activities commence.

2. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Participate in and successfully complete Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) and maintain valid certifications, particularly 6G certification.

  • Collaborate with QA/QC personnel during inspections, audits, and documentation reviews.

4. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Strictly comply with company HSE policies, site procedures, and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.

  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and always ensure safe welding practices.

  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, or near-miss incidents promptly to the Welding Supervisor.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment within fabrication yards and project sites.

5. Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate welding machines, gas cutting equipment, grinders, and related tools safely and efficiently.

  • Conduct routine pre-use inspections and basic maintenance of welding equipment.

  • Ensure proper handling and storage of welding consumables and materials.

  • Report equipment defects or malfunctions promptly to the supervisor.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately complete welding records, inspection reports, and work completion documentation as required.

  • Support the QA/QC team in maintaining fabrication documentation and material traceability records.

Qualifications

  • Trade Test Certificate, Technical Certificate. etc

  • Additional certifications in SMAW, or FCAW welding processes are an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on welding experience within the EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy fabrication industry.

  • Demonstrated experience in 6GR pipe welding, structural welding, and fabrication of pressure-rated equipment.

  • Previous experience working on large EPC projects or regulated fabrication environments is highly desirable.

Technical Competencies

  • Advanced proficiency in 6GR pipe welding and multi-process welding techniques (SMAW, FCAW).

  • Strong ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, weld maps, and fabrication blueprints.

  • Solid understanding of welding metallurgy, electrode selection, and filler material compatibility.
